Anyone who has thought of taking up hiking as a hobby has surely found that there is a lot of “hiking equipment” that claims to be important to have. And while hiking is certainly an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors, get some sun, and work out your body, you probably did not expect it to be expensive! And so, the question that must be answered is this: Can I go hiking in the clothes I already own, or do I need to buy something new?

When it comes to performance shirts, there is not only a great range of shirts to choose from, but there is also a great range of prices. When it comes down to it – although these shirts are good to have, as they are designed to pull sweat away from your body – these shirts are not necessary. Even though cotton and some other materials are more absorbent, you can get away with these shirts as long as they are lightweight.

As for pants that are supposed to be “performance-intensive,” these are designed to be lightweight and to still be sturdy, while also pulling sweat away from your body. As long as you have a sturdy pair of pants that can keep from getting snagged as you walk through branches, however, you should be fine!

When it comes to spending money on hiking, your main focus should be on the shoes you are putting on your feet. After all, hiking is an “on your feet” activity, and you do not want to be on your feet all day in the wrong shoes! Make sure you get a pair of sturdy, lightweight hiking shoes that are highly-rated, and that have good support for your ankles.

Of course, you can buy all that nice equipment, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that; but there is no vital need for you to dish out all that extra money for most of these items if you are simply wanting to enjoy a relaxing hobby!

When you take a vacation with your family, one of the main things that will be nice is the fact that it gives you a chance to be around your family and make memories together, but at the same time, one thing that is nice about any vacation – whether you are around your family or not – is the fact that a vacation gives you a break from your everyday life, and allows you to “recharge” your batteries. And of course, your family is probably aware of the fact that you need alone time during the day if this is the case for you – so the best solution is sometimes to just let your family know you are taking some alone time, and then to simply take it wherever you want to be!

You might own a polyester shirt that you love dearly, but that does not quite fit you the way you want it to; if this is the case, you may be able to solve this problem. Although you will hear that it is impossible to shrink polyester, this is not actually the case if you know what you are doing. Because polyester is a synthetic fabric, it will not shrink much, but you can get something to fit you a little bit better.

If you look at the washing instructions on your polyester clothes, you will find that they tell you to wash your clothes in cold water and to tumble dry them on the lowest possible temperature, but if you want to shrink polyester, heat is the most important element. You will need to ignore these washing instructions if you want to shrink your polyester clothes a bit!

The first thing you will want to do is turn your shirt (or pants, or whatever it is you are wanting to shrink) inside out. This will help you preserve the color of the shirt as it goes through the heat of the washer and dryer. Unless you have a “boil wash” setting on your washer (which can cause polyester to harden), you will want to wash these clothes on the hottest temperature. If you are simply wanting to shrink the clothes, you do not need to use detergent; the main thing is getting them in that hot water for a fair amount of time.

Immediately transfer the clothes to the dryer when they are finished washing, and run the dryer on the hottest setting. You will want to make sure the clothes dry for long enough that they become completely dry; if they are still damp when you take them out, you will not have the desired results. Once the clothes are completely dry, try them on; see if they have tightened up as much as you want them to. In order to get the clothes to just the right size, you may have to repeat this process one or two additional times.

You will not be able to shrink polyester to the same extent that cotton or wool will shrink, but if you take the proper steps, you can certainly adjust the fit a bit!

There are a number of houseplants that contain toxins that children and pets should avoid. Hydrangeas are a different flowering plant that many people keep in their houses. Since these are larger plants they tend to sit on the floor right where children can get into them. Hydrangeas contain a compound called cyanogenic glycoside. When plants that contain cyanogenic glycoside are chewed up it creates hydrogen cyanide. This can cause heart issues, gastrointestinal issues, headaches and muscle weakness.

Although it is important to have plants around for both indoor air quality and their mood lifting ability, you must keep these out of the reach of children. It is almost impossible to teach a child to keep things out of their mouths.  That is why it is so important to keep all plants out of their reach.
